Posture should be first and foremost on the list of problems to watch for. You should be loose and relaxed, not tensed. Another thing to keep in mind is the placement of your hips and shoulders; they should be parallel to the ball through the entire swing.
While this last point is up to debate, I find I have greater success keeping my front foot even with the ball, as compared with the ball being evenly between both feet. Once those major things are taken care of, it'll be much easier to isolate problems with the rest of your swing.

Your arms should go back nice and smooth with the club, keeping your hips and shoulders parallel to the ball; pause for a moment at the top of your swing.
Then, bring your arms back down in the same fluid motion. Once the ball is struck, follow through all the way, as the club should make a full circle from the start to the finish of your swing.
Once these major fundamentals are taken care of and are followed, it makes it much easier to improve your golf swing.
